Inside a Real RV Solar Installation Project

The photos above are from one of our completed RV solar installation projects — real work on a real rig, not a showroom demo. Every RV solar installation project we take on starts the same way: with a diagnostic conversation about how the rig is actually used. How many nights off-grid. What has to run when the engine is off. Whether the goal is weekend boondocking or living in the RV full-time. Those answers decide the size and design of the system, not a generic pre-set package.

In the build shown above, that meant a full rooftop solar array, a Victron SmartSolar charge controller sized correctly to the panel output, a properly wired lithium battery bank with Victron monitoring built in, and a rooftop AC unit installed and integrated into the same power system rather than treated as a separate afterthought. Every connection is torque-checked, every run is fused and labeled, and the complete system is load-tested before we call an RV solar installation project finished — that standard applies to every one of our RV solar installation projects.

Victron’s ecosystem is at the center of how we build and monitor these systems — SmartSolar charge controllers, Cerbo GX, and the VRM app give the owner a clear, real-time view of state of charge and power draw from their phone, whether they’re parked at a trailhead or a truck stop. That visibility matters as much as the hardware itself: an RV solar installation project only earns its keep if the owner can actually see and trust what it’s doing.
